Breda Netherlands
Canada and the Liberation of the Netherlands, May 1945 Nazi Germany's invasion of the Netherlands in May 1940 marked the beginning of five years of terror for the Dutch people. They faced oppression and death with remarkable stoicism, but nothing could save them from the Hunger Winter of 1944-5, when more than 30,000 people died of starvation. In this time of unimaginable despair, Canada came to the rescue, playing the largest role in liberating the Netherlands and ending the Nazi reign of terror. The Canadians gave the Dutch freedom -- and food -- and out of such dark times an eternal friendship was forged. Told through interviews with Dutch survivors and Canadian veterans, Canada and the Liberation of the Netherlands, May 1945 delves into this little known chapter of history.
The Poor Side of the Netherlands: Results from the Dutch "Poverty Monitor," 1997-2003 The Poor Side of the Netherlands is an anthology from the series Monitors. In addition to providing figures on the number of poor households, their composition and living conditions, this volume also includes information on groups with a high risk of poverty. Also contributions discuss the theme of social exclusion on the basis of the policy indicators adopted at the European level as well as on the basis of a new methodology. Finally, it devotes special attention to the dynamics of poverty, the poverty trap, and employment as an escape route from poverty. The Poor Side of the Netherlands is intended for policy-makers, researchers involved in monitoring, and anyone interested in learning more about poverty in the Netherlands. Cok Vrooman and Stella Hoff are affiliated with the Social and Cultural Planning Office in The Hague.
Communist Circle of Breda (marxist-leninist) - Communist Circle of Breda (marxist-leninist) (in Dutch: Kommunisten Kring Breda (marxistisch-leninistisch)) was a communist group in Breda, the Netherlands. KKB(ml) was formed in August 1972 by a group of Communist Unity Movement of the Netherlands (marxist-leninist) militants in Brabant who refused to shift to Rotterdam when the new party leadership ordered them to do so. Treaty of Breda - The Treaty of Breda was signed at the Dutch city of Breda, July 31, 1667, by England, the United Provinces (the Netherlands), France, and Denmark. It brought a hasty and inconclusive end to the Second Anglo-Dutch War (1665–1667), as Louis XIV's forces began invading the Spanish Netherlands, but left many territorial disputes unresolved. Declaration of Breda - Breda in the Netherlands, where King Charles II of England resided during his exile, has given its name to his Declaration of Breda (1660). In this proclamation, issued on 4 April, Charles made known the conditions of his acceptance of the crown of England which he was to accept/resume later in the same year. Netherlands cabinet Biesheuvel-1 - The Netherlands cabinet Biesheuvel-1 (1971-1972) was a coalition between the protestants (ARP), (CHU), the Roman-catholics (KVP), the conservative-liberals VVD and the moderate social-democrats (DS70). Problems of the cabinet were the release of war criminals (three of Breda) and the increasing inflation.
